Meet the Living Wage Employer: Vegware

Posted: 2018-02-26 10:35:49

We are hugely proud of our Living Wage employer network.  We have seen it grow from 20 employers in 2014 to over 1000 today.  But we want to know our network better!  So this year our accreditation officers will be out and about learning about the fantastic things that you are all up to.

This month we visited Vegware in Edinburgh.  Set up in 2006 by Joe Frankel, Vegware has developed into a market leader with their award-winning hot and cold drink cups, takeout boxes and food containers. All are low carbon, made from renewable or recycled materials and, being plant based they can be commercially composted with food waste where facilities exist.

Sustainability and recycling are at the heart of Vegware’s success.  Their extensive range of eco catering disposables offers quality environmentally-friendly products, and  their ‘Close the Loop’ initiative makes recycling simple by collecting clients’ used takeaway packaging and food waste for composting.

A globally recognised brand, Vegware supplies independent cafes through to the world’s largest contract caterers and distributors.  With its Headquarters in Edinburgh, Vegware has operational bases in Huntington Beach, Sydney and Hong Kong, with distribution throughout Europe and the Middle East.

Now employing over fifty staff in Scotland, Living Wage accreditation is important to the company. As well as the business benefits Living Wage accreditation brings, such as staff recruitment and retention, accreditation is a great way to let staff know they are valued and of course, to let customers know they are a responsible and progressive company.

So next time you see the Vegware logo you will know it stands for fair pay, as well as industry leading environmental sustainability.
