Highland Coast Hotels is bringing innovative, sustainable and community-led hospitality to the coastlines of the North Highlands. The group is already taking steps to strengthen and enhance the hotels it owns while supporting local communities and boosting regional growth. Being an accredited Living Wage employer is key to this mission.
Since being established in 2021, Highland Coast Hotels has continued to invest in six of the region’s landmark hotels, including Kylesku; Tongue; Plockton; Royal Golf Hotel, Dornoch; Royal Marine Hotel, Brora; and Lochardil House in Inverness.
Highland Coast Hotels currently supports 150 hospitality jobs for local people, rising to around 180 in the peak summer season. These professional roles are providing longer-term and more secure career opportunities for people in local communities to continue living and working in the region they call home.
Kenny McMillan, Managing Director of Highland Coast Hotels, said:
“Continued investment and development of our venues and teams is already helping to support local jobs and boost the quality of community life across the region all year round, not just during the peak summer season.
“We are now one of the largest employers in the North Highlands, helping to attract, retain and develop much-needed talent and skills in the region rather than losing it to other parts of the country.
“Highland Coast Hotels has created over 150 hospitality jobs for local people in just five years. These professional roles are providing longer-term and more secure career opportunities for people in local communities to continue living and working in the region they call home.
“As well as helping to grow the region’s tourism economy, Highland Coast Hotels also aims to create lasting careers in hospitality that will benefit the wider local communities.
“We became and accredited Living Wage hospitality employer in May 2022 and quickly saw the positive impact across the whole team.
“Being an accredited Living Wage employer in a remote and rural area like the North Highlands attracts a wide range people looking for a long-term career in hospitality, including younger people from college or university searching for their first work experience opportunity and those looking to relocate to the region from other parts of the country.
“By extending the season, we’re now able to keep our hotels open all year round, providing much needed job opportunities during the quieter winer months, as well as the peak summer season.
“Living Wage also means we’re now able to offer a more stable career path to people in all kinds of hospitality roles, including kitchen, front of house, maintenance and housekeeping. These roles now benefit from fair and equal pay in line with the rest of the country.”
