Julie McGahan, Manager at Living Wage Scotland said:
“Congratulations to all of our award winners and finalists who are leading the way in highlighting the importance of the real Living Wage.
“As the first ever Living Wage awards for Scotland, it has been fantastic to hear from employers of all sizes and sectors from all over Scotland tell us about the ways in which they are championing the real Living Wage.
“The winners and finalists include employers in hospitality and childcare, from SMEs to FTSE 100 corporations, from Moray to Campbeltown.
“We hope that our awards will inspire more organisations to consider joining the Living Wage employer movement, and for those who have already done so, to continue working with us to lend their valuable support to the movement”.
Minister for Business, Fair Work and Skills Jamie Hepburn said:
“I am delighted to see Scotland host its first ever Living Wage awards – and would like to congratulate all of the winners and finalists on their achievements.
“The real Living Wage not only helps to ensure people’s basic pay meets the cost of living and recognises the work they do, but this increase will benefit businesses by increasing staff retention, productivity and boosting morale in the workplace.
“Scotland is already the best performing country in the UK in terms of paying the real Living Wage and ahead of the curve when it comes to championing fairness in the workplace. These awards highlight the fantastic work organisations up and down the country are already doing in order to help make this happen.”
The Awards ceremony at Tynecastle Stadium in Edinburgh on Thursday 8 November 2018 was hosted by Sarah Jackson, OBE.
Guest speakers included Jamie Hepburn, Minister for Business Fair Work and Skills, Peter Kelly, Director of the Poverty Alliance, Tess Lanning, Director of the Living Wage Foundation, Sandy Macdonald, Head of Sustainability at Standard Life Aberdeen and Anna Ritchie Allan, Executive Director of Close the Gap. The event also included a panel discussion with staff from Heart’s Football Club on the benefits of receiving the real Living Wage.
