The Fair Work Convention believes in putting fair work at the heart of Scotland’s workplaces and economy, but what does that really mean for workers and employers?
More than ever employees are being asked to work in different ways. Fair Work should be at the heart of finding solutions to the challenges that arise. Things like developing hybrid working, managing working time, balancing working and caring responsibilities, creating safe and healthy workplaces, fair pay and access to training, are all part of creating fair work outcomes; Fair work balances the rights and responsibilities of employers and workers, it generates benefits for individuals, organisations and society.
To help achieve this, The Fair Work Convention has launched a new Fair Work Self-Assessment Tool for Workers to help workers assess how fair they think their workplace is. It also provides functionality for employers and trade unions to invite workers to use the tool, allowing them to understand workers’ collective experiences and perceptions of fair work.
This tool complements the existing Fair Work Employer Support Tool which we developed in conjunction with Scottish Enterprise and is designed to help employers create new and improved workplace policies and practices.
Both tools enable workers and employers to assess their workplace against the five dimensions of fair work: effective voice, opportunity, security, fulfilment and respect.
We encourage all workers and employers to use and share our fair work tools, to ensure fair work drives success, wellbeing and prosperity for individuals, businesses, organisations and society across Scotland.
