#InThisTogether with Grandview and Main’s House

09 April 2020

Living Wage Scotland have been speaking to employers all over the country. This week we were lucky enough to speak to the teams at two of our Living Wage accredited care homes and hear about their experience of Covid-19.

Grandview House in Grantown on Spey and Main’s House in Newtonmore are both run by Libby, Tom and their mum, supported by their teams of dedicated and professional staff.

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis the management team have been overwhelmed by the support from their teams. From staff baking cakes for each other on their days off and bringing them into share to a member of the team in Grandview House who was previously a hairdresser doing cut and blow dry’s for fellow staff, the teams have been doing all they can to keep each other positive.

Libby told us:

“The teams have just been incredible, not only continuing to support our residents with professionalism and compassion but also supporting each other with a huge amount of support, care and laughter”

The Care homes are important parts of the local communities and as well as the amazing support from their teams, Libby was kind enough to share the experiences they have had from the local communities during the current crisis.

“In Grantown and Newtonmore, the outpouring from our communities is truly heart-warming and amazing. We have had food donations, games dropped off at the door, we have had people volunteering to do whatever they can to support the homes. The families have also been very understanding, a lot of phone calls start with:

sorry to phone, I know you’re busy, just when someone is free, could they let me know how my mum, dad, sister, brother, auntie, uncle, friend is. No rush we know your busy.

This outpouring is something I wanted to share as it acknowledges the professionalism of our teams and highlights how we value our communities and they in turn value us.”

We will be sharing more stories of our accredited employers’ experiences of reliance and compassion during the crisis. If you’re doing something positive for your workers, communities or the front-line, please let us know as we would love to share these stories with the network.

Sharing is caring!
