#InThisTogether with Edinburgh Bow Tie

21 April 2020

We’re sharing stories of our amazing accredited employers and how they’ve shown us all that we’re #InThisTogether

Our Living Wage employer The Edinburgh Bow Tie Co closed last month and furloughed its staff. Owner Hannah is 8 months pregnant, so decided that as a vulnerable person, a face mask would be useful as an extra precaution. Hannah also wanted to offer others a face mask too, so decided to use their large collection of cotton fabrics to make some.

“We didn’t want to charge for them, it seems wrong to making a profit out of a situation like this. We just wanted to give a little bit back to our community.”

Hannah contacted local retailer Weigh To Go, who were more than happy to distribute them. Lucy from Weigh To Go suggested raising money for a local food bank charity with a suggested donation of £5, but it’s a give what you can donation. Lucy also kindly offered to match any donations given!

“The first batch sold out within a few hours, and we raised £120. The second batch sold out in around an hour of Weigh to Go putting them on their social media.”

We will be sharing more stories of our accredited employers’ experiences of resilience and compassion during the crisis. If you’re doing something positive for your workers, communities or the front-line, please let us know as we would love to share these stories with the network.
