Businesses across North Lanarkshire are adopting the real Living Wage and Tannoch Tots Nursery in Tannochside, Uddingston, is the 100th employer to sign up to the initiative, which sets a minimum hourly wage rate for staff.
By signing up as a real Living Wage employer, the Nursery is committing to paying its staff a fair and reasonable wage to assist them with an affordable quality of life. As well as offering staff financial security and showing their work is valued, it also has clear benefits for employers. By paying a Living Wage, employers are able to attract, and retain skilled staff. North Lanarkshire Council offer support to small companies as they work towards being accredited and can help them through the process. Carla McGuinness, Nursery Director, said: “Tannoch Tots nursery signed up for the real Living Wage as it’s the right thing to do by all our staff, especially at this time with the cost of living currently soaring. We understand our staff are what make our nursery the great place that it is for our children and families. As a family run nursery, we always strive to do the best for our employees, and we therefore felt being a real Living Wage employer would be very beneficial to all our staff team.” John Campbell, Financial Inclusion Manager with North Lanarkshire Council, said: “North Lanarkshire Council is a real Living Wage employer and, together with our partners, encourage other local companies to sign up to adopt the real Living Wage to make work pay and help more people out of poverty. Increasing income from employment is one of the key priorities in our Tackling Poverty Strategy which aims to deliver inclusive, fairer and prosperous communities. We’re delighted Tannoch Tots has helped us reach this milestone and is now our 100th business to sign up to the initiative, and would appeal for more businesses to pledge their support.” Gail Irvine, Manager, Living Wage Scotland, added: “We are delighted to welcome Tannoch Tots to the Living Wage network in Scotland. They join over 2,500 employers in Scotland committed to valuing their staff by paying a real living wage based on the cost of living. That there are now 100 accredited Living Wage employers in North Lanarkshire is testament to North Lanarkshire Council’s enduring support for the Living Wage, and the benefits Living Wage accredited employers gain, in terms of demonstrating their values and helping to attract, retain and motivate good people. We look forward to welcoming many more North Lanarkshire employers to the Living Wage movement.” |
